To fully enjoy your weekend in Arcachon, it's essential to adopt a balanced pace. There's no need to try to see everything: the Bay is best discovered by taking your time, choosing the right moments of the day, and alternating between walks, relaxation, and local discoveries.
Here is our ideal itinerary for a successful weekend around Arcachon.

Friday evening – Arrival and first immersion
Arriving in Arcachon at the end of the day allows you to immediately immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the Bay. Arcachon train station is located in the city center, making it easy to reach your accommodation, beaches, and restaurants on foot.
After settling in, we recommend a first stroll along the seafront. The late afternoon light on the Arcachon Basin is particularly soft, and the atmosphere becomes calmer as the day draws to a close.
For dinner, Arcachon's town center offers a wide selection of restaurants: seafood, local cuisine, brasseries, or more contemporary establishments. It's the perfect opportunity to discover the products of the Bay, especially oysters and fresh fish.
Marc & Géraldine's advice: opt for a simple and pleasant dinner, without going too far. The goal of this first evening is to get you into the rhythm of the Arcachon Basin.

Saturday morning: The Dune du Pilat and the Atlantic Ocean
Saturday morning is the ideal time to discover the Dune du Pilat, an iconic site in the Arcachon Basin and the highest dune in Europe.
We recommend arriving early to avoid the crowds and fully enjoy the site. Climbing the dune remains accessible and offers spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean, the Banc d'Arguin sandbar, and the Landes forest.
Once at the top, take the time to admire the scenery. The Dune du Pilat is one of the most impressive viewpoints in the region.
After the climb, you can go back down towards the ocean to enjoy a wilder beach, with large stretches of sand and a very different atmosphere from the beaches of the Bassin.
On your way back to Arcachon, stop in Le Moulleau, one of the most pleasant areas of the Arcachon Basin. Its relaxed atmosphere, terraces, and pier make it an ideal spot for a lunch break or a moment of relaxation.

Saturday midday and afternoon – Cap Ferret, boat trip and oyster tasting
To experience the Arcachon Basin in a typical way, we recommend spending your Saturday midday and afternoon on a trip to Cap Ferret.
From Arcachon, you can take a ferry across the Bay. The crossing is quick and offers a beautiful experience, with views of the Dune du Pilat, the Banc d'Arguin sandbar, and the iconic landscapes of the Bay.
Upon arrival, take the time to visit an oyster-farming village like L'Herbe or Le Canon, among the most charming in Cap Ferret. This is where the experience truly comes to life.
Settle in for a simple and authentic lunch directly at a producer's. Enjoying oysters from the Arcachon Basin overlooking the oyster beds, accompanied by a glass of white wine, remains an unmissable moment of the stay.
After your meal, you can extend your exploration by strolling through the narrow streets of the villages, past colorful huts, pine trees, and views of the Bay. The atmosphere is peaceful and very different from Arcachon.
In the mid- to late afternoon, take the boat back to Arcachon. The return trip across the Bay, bathed in the late afternoon light, is often one of the most beautiful moments of the weekend.
Marc & Géraldine's tip: check the shuttle schedules in advance to plan your day smoothly, especially in high season.
Saturday evening – Bassin atmosphere and dinner overlooking the water
Saturday evening is often the most pleasant time of the weekend. The atmosphere becomes more relaxed, the temperatures drop slightly, and the Bassin regains a certain calm.
You can choose to dine in Arcachon or Le Moulleau, depending on the atmosphere you're looking for. Dining overlooking the Arcachon Basin is always a special experience, especially as the light fades.
After dinner, a walk along the beach or in the streets of Arcachon allows you to extend the evening in a peaceful atmosphere.

Sunday: gentle weather, walks and last-minute discoveries
For your last day on the Bassin, take the time to enjoy a gentler pace, between walks and local discoveries.
Several options are available to you depending on your preferences.
For cycling enthusiasts, a ride along the coast is ideal. You can head towards Le Moulleau to enjoy its elegant atmosphere and pretty villas, or choose a different route towards La Teste-de-Buch. In this case, a stop at the La Teste market offers the chance to discover local produce in a friendly atmosphere, particularly lively on Sunday mornings.
If you prefer walking, the Winter Town is a must-see. This slightly elevated district is distinguished by its magnificent 19th-century villas, each unique, nestled in a leafy setting. The walk is particularly pleasant and offers a unique glimpse into Arcachon's architectural heritage.
Continuing your stroll, you can reach the Moorish Park, a true oasis of calm in the heart of the city. From the park, you can take the elevator or the stairs back down to the Summer Town, where you can enjoy the seafront atmosphere one last time.
👉 This is the perfect opportunity to conclude your stay with lunch on the terrace, overlooking the Bassin, before leaving.
